React provides an abstraction between the description of a UI and the details of how it's rendered on a given platform. The problem is that `div` and `span` are a hidden dependency on `react-dom`, and similarly, React Native's `View` is an explicit dependency on Native, making both not quite as "cross-platform" as we want them to be.
