Go beyond reactive programming (Promises, Observables, etc) and take a fresh look at plain old callbacks.

Programming with callbacks has been every JavaScript programmer's struggle since always. "Callback hell" is the reason why we have created Promises, Observables, reactive programming libraries, and other smart tools to help us avoid using callbacks directly. 

In this talk, we'll go beyond reactive programming and take a fresh look at callbacks. We will discover an incredible pattern among simple callbacks, that allows us to do everything that Observables or Promises or Iterables can do, and through familiar functional APIs. That pattern is fondly named "Callbags".

The declarative nature of React components is what makes it composable and attractive for UI development. React Native provides a way of using React for native development, but also introduces a couple of APIs for interacting with native modules, and these are not declarative. It is not always clear where to call these APIs from, and usually they end up in lifecycle hooks or redux middlewares in an unstructured style. In this talk we will see how Cycle.js (or in general, a hexagonal architecture) can help manage both React components and Native APIs in a declarative fashion, to organize code and make it more testable.

React's future is going to be more functional, and less OOP. What if that future is already reality? How would it look like? React's foundations are reactive rendering and UI as a pure function of state. These two foundations are reactive programming and functional programming, yet React has a lot of concepts from imperative programming. In this talk we will discover how Cycle.js is purely reactive and functional, and why it's an interesting alternative to React.
